General Questions

What kind of yarn do you dye?

We currently dye small-batch, hand-dyed yarn on premium bases sourced mainly from Uruguay. Everything is dyed in our home studio in Ohio using professional acid dyes.

Do you offer sweater quantities?

Yes! If you need multiple skeins of a colorway, feel free to email us at hello@thecuriousskein.com or message us through the Contact page. We're happy to dye a made-to-order batch for you so your skeins match as closely as possible.

How often do you update the shop?

Shop updates typically happen seasonally or when new collections are ready. We always announce updates on Instagram and Facebook, so follow along if you want first dibs on new colorways!


Colorway & Dyeing Questions

Will my skeins match?

Every skein is dyed by hand, so slight variations are normal and part of the charm of small-batch yarn. For larger projects, we recommend:

  • Ordering enough for your project at once
  • Alternating skeins every 1–2 rows for a beautifully blended fabric

Care & Use

How should I care for hand-dyed yarn?

For best results:

  • Hand wash in cool water
  • Use a gentle wool wash
  • Lay flat to dry

We use colorfast professional acid dyes, but some light bleeding can occur on first wash — especially with reds, blues, and very saturated colors. This is normal.

Can I machine wash my finished project?

Superwash bases can typically be machine washed on gentle, but we always recommend hand washing to extend the life of your handmade pieces.


Shipping & Processing

How long will it take to ship my order?

  • Ready-to-ship skeins: 3–5 business days
  • Dyed-to-order skeins: 1–2 weeks depending on order size

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! International shipping options will appear at checkout.

  • DHL Express: Duties & import taxes are calculated and prepaid at checkout. Your package arrives with no surprise fees.
  • USPS International: Duties & taxes are NOT collected at checkout. Buyers may owe VAT, customs fees, or import taxes on delivery.

How is shipping calculated?

Shipping is calculated at checkout based on weight and destination. We don’t upcharge shipping — you pay what USPS or DHL charges.


Returns & Order Issues

What if my package is lost?

Once your package is scanned by the carrier, it is in their possession. We are not responsible for carrier delays, loss, or damage.
If something goes wrong:

  1. Please contact the carrier first using your tracking number.
  2. Then email us at hello@thecuriousskein.com, and we’ll help open a case if needed.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

All sales are final due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn. However, if something is wrong with your order, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will do everything we can to help.

What if there’s a problem with my order?

Please contact us right away! We want you to love your yarn and will work with you to make things right.
