Here you’ll find details about the yarn bases currently featured in our shop. Our two signature bases, Voyager Sock and Storybook Sock, reflect the heart of The Curious Skein: curiosity, creativity, and warmth. You’ll also see Cabin Sock, a limited base available only while supplies last.

Voyager Sock

75% Superwash Merino Wool / 25% Nylon

Voyager Sock is the core base of The Curious Skein — smooth, versatile, and perfect for everyday wear. The nylon content adds strength and durability, making it an excellent choice for socks, garments, and accessories that will see lots of love.

Why I love it:

Voyager Sock takes dye beautifully, from crisp tonals to rich variegated colorways. It’s a dependable, beginner-friendly base with a soft hand and excellent stitch definition.

90% Extra Fine Superwash Merino / 10% Nylon

100g — 437 yards (400 meters)

Luxuriously soft with a dreamy drape.

Storybook Sock is my premium base, spun from extra fine 19.5 micron merino for exceptional softness. This yarn feels buttery and smooth, making it perfect for projects worn close to the skin.

Why I love it:

This base creates luminous tonals and gentle pastels with incredible clarity. It’s perfect for delicate color stories, fade sets, and soft romantic palettes.

 

Cabin Sock (Leaving soon)

80% Extra Fine Merino Wool / 20% Nylon (Non-Superwash)

100g — 437 yards (400 meters)

20 g — 87 yards (80 meters)

Cozy, rustic, and wool-forward.

Cabin Sock is a non-superwash base with a soft, traditional wool feel and excellent stitch definition. It offers a touch more structure than my superwash bases and creates beautifully classic fabrics.

Please note:

Cabin Sock is a limited base that will not be restocked once sold out.

Yarn Care

To keep your handmade pieces looking their best:

• Hand wash gently in cool water

• Use wool wash or mild detergent

• Lay flat to dry

• Avoid hot water or agitation

• Buy enough for your project in one batch, as hand-dyed skeins vary slightly

All yarns are dyed in small batches with professional acid dyes in a smoke-free, pet-free home.
